We recently completed a full refurbishment and extension of a family home in The Chase, Kingswood, located within the Kingswood Conservation Area. As architects working in Kingswood, we were tasked with reimagining the property to better suit modern family life, while respecting the character of its surroundings.
The original house was of a reasonable size but no longer met the needs of its owners. Through significant remodelling, we extended both to the side and rear, introducing a large open-plan living space and reconfiguring the layout to create generous bedroom suites throughout the upper floors. The new design transforms the property from a traditional home into a light-filled, contemporary family space.
Working within a conservation area always demands a sensitive approach. Here, we focused on blending the new build elements with the existing structure, carefully choosing materials and detailing to sit comfortably within the established character of The Chase.
The result is a modern home that offers the best of both worlds: an open, flexible interior suited to today's living, and an exterior that remains in keeping with this highly sought-after part of Kingswood.
